Ancient marble lamb sculpture discovered

This Byzantine-era statue is somehow still kind of cute.

This little lamb looks like he could almost be at home in your backyard ... if he weren't so old. Excavations carried out in Israel's Caesarea National Park in late December revealed this marble lamb sculpture, which experts think was a decoration sometime in the 6th-7th century. After all those years, he's not much worse for the wear.

Caesarea National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is home to a good deal of discoveries, and its rich history continues to inspire present-day art.
