Guess which colleges send the most alumni to Google

A new list ranks the top 20 schools with the most alumni employed by the technology company.

Google employs more than 57,000 people at its many offices around the world, and most of them are highly educated individuals. Not all receive that education from the same place, though. Rather, they are culled from schools around the world. But as it turns out, Google does have its favorites, and thanks to Business Insider, which did a little snooping around LinkedIn with the site's University Finder tool, we now know which schools those are.

Stanford and California, Berkeley, both located within close proximity of Google's Mountain View, California, headquarters, are far and away the darlings of the company's workforce. Interestingly, despite Google's global reach, 17 of the top 20 schools are located in the United States. Of the three remaining, two are in England, and the other is Tel Aviv University, in Israel. Here's the list, which ranks the 20 schools with the most alumni working at Google:

  1. Stanford University (2,275 alumni)
  2. University of California, Berkeley (2,032 alumni)
  3. Carnegie Mellon University (1,180 alumni)
  4. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1,011 alumni)
  5. University of California, Los Angeles (902 alumni)
  6. University of Michigan (773 alumni)
  7. Cornell University (747 alumni)
  8. University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (663 alumni)
  9. Harvard University (616 alumni)
  10. University of California, San Diego (566 alumni)
  11. University of California, Davis (490 alumni)
  12. University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business (484 alumni)
  13. University of Pennsylvania (464 alumni)
  14. University of Cambridge (419 alumni)
  15. University of California, Santa Barbara (381 alumni)
  16. University of Oxford (355 alumni)
  17. Harvard Business School (342 alumni)
  18. California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo (329 alumni)
  19. Purdue University (296 alumni)
  20. Tel Aviv University (288 alumni)

Two thousand alumni, or even 200, might not seem like many, but consider that the company receives between 2.5 million and 3.5 million job applications every year – and only hires about 4,000 people!
