Lucky photogs get chance of a lifetime to shoot covers of popular magazines

A contest crowned three winners to shoot covers for Vanity Fair, Brides and Condé Nast Traveler.

With smartphones in our pockets, everybody is a photographer nowadays. But to be noticed above the rest in this field still takes talent and, often, a lot of luck.

Those two forces combined recently when Israeli web development platform Wix and American media company Condé Nast teamed up for the #LookStunning campaign.

The idea was to award three global photographers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shoot a cover for one of two Condé Nast Magazines, Brides and Condé Nast Traveler, or assist on the cover shoot for Vanity Fair. Thousands of photographers from more than 150 countries submitted their online portfolios for the chance to win.

The submission process was simple: Photographers posted their portfolio to a dedicated Wix website, and the judges – Susan White, photography director at Vanity Fair; Jenifer Walter, creative director at Brides; and Yolanda Edwards, creative director at Condé Nast Traveler – chose the three winners. And the three winners chosen were:

  • Nicholas La, a photographer originally from China and now a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area. He'll be shooting an upcoming cover of Condé Nast Traveler.
  • Max Montgomery, of New York City, will be shooting the cover of Brides. Not a newcomer to the industry, he actually has shot for numerous magazines including Vogue Italia, Marie Claire, Town and Country and The Sunday Times.
  • Tony Salvagio, of Los Angeles, will be the assistant to the photographer for a cover shoot of Vanity Fair.

These three definitely won't suffer from lack of exposure. Condé Nast is one the most high-profile media companies in the world, boasting some 20 print and digital brands including those taking part in this contest, Vogue and Wired. As for Wix, the company was founded in Israel in 2006 and has used a creative mix of partnerships and advertising to become a leading global brand. It's made a name for itself stateside through witty marketing, celebrity ads and partnerships with sports franchises.
