You can now make your own ice cream at home from a tiny capsule
The Solo Gelato machine is like a Keurig for ice cream lovers.
As a society, we've really gone gangbusters with our need for instant everything. Instant coffee, instant cookware, instant shopping ... clearly, we've decided the only way to do it right is to do it right away.
So this new invention we've discovered should come as no surprise, but it should definitely pique your interest. It's an instant Keurig-style frozen dessert maker that produces fresh, frosty gelato in less than a minute. It's called Solo Gelato, and it's the result of a partnership between Israeli CEO Barak Beth-Halachmi and Swiss chocolate producer Barry Callebaut.
Solo Gelato is a countertop system that utilizes capsules, similar to the pods used in Keurig single-serve coffee makers, to produce gelato, frozen yogurt, sorbet, frozen coffee and basically anything that's simultaneously frozen and edible.
For Beth-Halachmi, the idea of blending entrepreneurship with frozen desserts came naturally: he studied gastronomy in Italy, where he fell in love with gelato.
"We will disrupt the ice cream industry, just as capsule systems revolutionized the coffee industry," reads Solo Gelato's website.
The system will be available commercially later this year. It's got a few stops to make first, including a debut at an international food trade show in Italy.
