Rustic French toast bake
Breakfast hits the spot with this easy, prep-ahead meal.
Not that making French toast is hard, but this recipe makes it a whole lot easier. You just prepare it the night before, wake up and bake it. Oh, and it is just as delicious.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 loaf Texas toast
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Powdered sugar for sprinkling
Directions
Melt the butter in the microwave and then add it and the brown sugar to a small mixing bowl, mix well.
Spread the brown sugar mixture across the bottom of a 9x13 pan, evenly coating.
Beat the eggs, milk and vanilla extract.
Lay a single layer of the Texas toast bread across the bottom of the pan, trimming if need be, so that the layer lays flush. Cover the bread with half of the egg mixture.
This is optional but if you want a stuffed French toast, you can put sliced bananas on top of the first layer. Thinly sliced apples can also work. Or just sprinkle some cinnamon.
Add the second layer of bread, same as the first, so it lays flush and cover it with the remaining egg mixture.
Cover and chill overnight in the fridge.
Bake at 350° F for about 40 minutes the next morning. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve!
