'Anti-Facebook' mobile app is backed by Leonardo DiCaprio

Galaxia allows you to create as many personal profiles as you please.

While social media platforms such as Facebook discourage users from creating multiple profiles, a new smartphone application is actually encouraging it, and the concept has attracted some heavyweight supporters, including Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio, an investor in the enterprise.

Galaxia is the brainchild of Israeli photo-sharing network Mobli and was founded on the idea that people present different faces to different groups of people.

The folks behind the new iOS app – an Android version is expected within weeks – say it was built to enable people to share content and meet people using whatever persona (their term for a profile) they like, and to easily move from persona to persona as they please. Users have complete control over their personas, and each persona is kept completely private and separate from any other.

“Galaxia is a mix of messaging groups and social networks that enables a more natural social experience by offering users a complete freedom of expression in all their worlds," said Moshe Hogeg, co-founder of Mobli.

"We’re trying to build a platform that will allow us to be who we want to be, in each context. It’s not about wearing masks, it’s about taking them off; By keeping the contextual separation, Galaxia actually simulates our day-to-day behavior, as the platform allows users to fully explore the spectrum of possibilities of identity and interest.”
