Ingenious invention silences the sound of snoring
The age-old problem of someone having to sleep on the couch could be solved with this new wearable device.
Say goodbye to sleepless nights because your partner is snoring too loud. Silent Partner is the world’s first “smartpatch” that uses noise cancellation technology – the same tech employed by noise-canceling headphones – to silence the sound of snoring, ensuring that the snorer and their partner will get a better night’s sleep.
The lightweight, flexible patch hangs gently across the bridge of a snorers nose. Rather than trying to alleviate the source of problem, Silent Partner helps to remove the annoying effects – the sound. It can sense the sound of snoring and generates a counter sound that effectively cancels out the snoring sound.
The product was developed in Israel by entrepreneurs Netanel Eyal and Yoni Bazak, both graduates of Hebrew University in Jerusalem. According to Eyal, Silent Partner works as close as eight inches.
Eyal says the average sound of a snore is 70 decibels, and Silent Partner can generate sounds much higher. The sound that Silent Partner creates is acoustic, so there’s no worry about vibrations that could wake the snorer up. Because of how sound is transmitted in the brain, Silent Partner will also help alleviate the sound of your own snoring. But since it works better a little farther way, the effect will be better for your partner than for you. If you have sleep apnea or other chronic snoring issues you should still see a doctor.
The device is powered by a small battery similar to that of a hearing aid, and comes with 14 hypoallergenic adhesive patches to keep itself in place – each one can be used for up to a month.
Silent Partner was launched via an Indiegogo campaign that raised nearly $350,000, exceeding its goal by 656%. “We’re very thankful for all of the support we received during our campaign. The number of backers and overwhelming positive feedback we have received serves as a strong validation for our product,” Bazak said in a press release .
Even if you missed out on the original campaign, don’t worry. Silent Partner is still available for pre-order, and is expected to be delivered November 2016. The device is currently priced at $99, which is still a lot cheaper than an entire marriage worth of earplugs.
