'Dream On' by Aerosmith
Perhaps one of the most famous dream songs is a power ballad by the American rock band Aerosmith. Released in 1973, and then re-issued in 1976, the song was written and performed by Steven Tyler. It reached the No. 6 spot on the U.S. Billboard 100 in 1976, and has been included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll. Take a listen and you'll clearly see why.
'Dream in My Head' by Yael Naim
This slow and steady dream song was released earlier this year by Israeli singer-songwriter Yael Naim. Naim was launched into fame when her song “New Soul” was featured in an Apple commercial in 2008 – making her the first Israeli solo artist to have a top 10 hit in the United States. Since then, she has released two albums, including "Older," which just came out in March. This song highlights the hope within dreams: “I got a dream in my head / Just waiting for the day.”
'Dreams' by the Cranberries
This song was released in 1993 as a single from the Cranberries’ debut album "Everybody Else is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?" The success of the song and the album quickly launched this Irish group into rock star status. The band – consisting of a guitarist, vocalist, drummer, and bassist – became one of the most famous groups of the 1990s, selling over 40 million albums worldwide. The sweet and gentle song “Dreams” is one of their biggest hits, peaking at No. 15 on the U.S. Billboard charts.
'Dreams' by Fleetwood Mac
British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac released “Dreams” in 1977 on their album "Rumors." American singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks wrote the song, which reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard charts. The album has become one of the most successful of all time. The song has been covered from artists of all genres including the Corrs, Leighton Meester and Bastille.
'Nice Dream' by Radiohead
British alternative rock band Radiohead released “Nice Dream” in 1995 on the album "The Bends." The band was launched into fame in the early 1990s with their debut single “Creep.” They have continued their success with seven more albums and over 30 million copies sold, establishing their place as No. 73 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “The Greatest Artists of All Time.”
'Daydreaming' by Paramore
The final song on our list was released in 2013 by American rock band Paramore. It was on the band’s fourth and most successful album – also known for chart toppers “Still Into You” and “Ain’t It Fun.” The song encourages the listener to think outside the box, and not be afraid to dream: “I wanna get out and build my own house / on a street where reality is not much different from the dreams I’ve had.” And the music video will make you want to get outside, close your eyes and start dreaming.
