What we learned from the Comic-Con 'Batman v Superman' trailer

From Lex Luthor's hair to Wonder Woman's debut, this new peek at the anticipated film is filled with superhero eye candy.

At last weekend's Comic-Con event in San Diego, director Zack Snyder finally gave comic-book fans the giant KAPOW! they've been waiting for. In front of thousands at the legendary Hall H room at the convention center, Snyder followed up on the "Batman v Superman" teaser he released in April with a jam-packed full trailer that clocks in at more than three minutes. It's beautifully crafted, introduces some pivotal characters from the DC Comics universe, and gives us every reason to believe that next March is truly worth waiting for.

1. Lex Luthor has hair – and a whole lot of Kryptonite

New York-bred actor Jesse Eisenberg finally makes his appearance as the villainous Lex Luthor – with hair. It appears Snyder is taking an origin story approach with the character; who we assume will eventually shed his locks for that famous bald head. As shown in the trailer, he's also managed to get his hands on some kryptonite. Is this what will power Batman's armored suit when he goes up against Superman? The trailer (thankfully) does not give anything away.

2. Wonder Woman knows how to make an entrance

Of all the new introductions, seeing Israeli actress Gal Gadot wield some serious power as Wonder Woman was definitely the best. While there were only glimpses of the superhero and her alter-ego Diana Prince, they were enough to confirm that she's going to be a major player in the film. It's a welcome reveal after months of teaser images and concept drawings – and further proof that the DC Comics universe is about to expand on screen in a very big way.

3. Bruce Wayne was personally impacted by the events in 'Man of Steel'

As it turns out, Bruce Wayne was in Metropolis during the epic battle between Superman and Zod that took place in the earlier film "Man of Steel." The destruction of Wayne Tower during the conflict is shown to weigh heavily on the millionaire playboy; one of the many grudges he likely holds against Superman leading up to their epic battle. "20 years in Gotham, how many good guys are left?," Wayne says in the trailer. "How many stayed that way? He has the power to wipe out the entire human race. And we have to destroy him."

4. The Joker returns

Though he doesn't make an appearance, the Joker is given an awesome nod in the trailer. Early on, a brooding Bruce Wayne is seen gazing up at a superhero suit belonging to his former sidekick Robin. We won't spoil exactly what happened to cause this sad moment, but let's just say the Joker had the last laugh. The next question? Will this iconic villain, played by Jared Leto in the upcoming "Suicide Squad" film, make a physical appearance in "Batman v Superman?"

5. Batman will face Superman without his armored suit

While the first teaser showed us a lot of Batman fighting Superman using special armor, it appears that another showdown will happen without such protection. That's not good for Bruce Wayne (or clearly, the Batmobile), who will have to rely upon his acrobatic skills and gadgets to survive an alien with unlimited powers. Could this scene be their first confrontation; ultimately leading Bruce Wayne to partner with Lex Luthor in an effort to destroy Superman? We'll have to wait until March 25, 2016 to find out.
