Superhero playlist: Songs that make you feel like Wonder Woman

Release your inner Diana Prince with this Wonder Woman-themed lineup of music.

The new superhero film Wonder Woman is finally in theaters and receiving fantastic reviews from the critics. With a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it's becoming the must-see hit of the summer. The movie stars Israeli actress Gal Gadot and tells the story of the Amazon warrior princess who uses her superpowers to restore peace in the world.

Here are five songs by strong, powerful and fearless ladies that will make you feel like Wonder Woman.

'Superwoman' by Alicia Keys

American singer-songwriter Alicia Keys kicks off our superhero list. She's won 15 Grammys and was included in Time magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in 2017. Her song "Superwoman" was released in 2007 on her third studio album, "As I Am." Keys received a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for this song. “Every time I sing it, it makes me feel inspired to be however I am that day,” she said.

'Wonder Woman' by Lion Babe

This next female power anthem is by American electro soul duo Lion Babe, which includes Jillian Hervey and Lucas Goodman. The idea for the song was inspired when Hervey saw a GIF of Wonder Woman on Tumblr. Producer Pharrell encouraged her to write about it, and then helped the duo produce this track. It was released in 2016 on the album "Begin." Hervey is no stranger to powerful women. She is the daughter of actress and former Miss America, Vanessa Williams. “I wanted this song to be about empowerment,” Hervey shared.

'Superstar' by Ninet

"Superstar" is a hit song by a pioneer in the Mediterranean entertainment industry. Ninet Tayeb is an Israeli singer, songwriter, DJ and actress. She is one of the most famous entertainers in Israel and is making her big break in the United States with the album "Paper Parachute," which was released earlier this year. She also performed at South by Southwest, a festival that celebrates the film and music industries in Austin, Texas. "Superstar" was released in 2016, after Tayeb moved from Israel to Los Angeles. The music video features a strong and tough female lead, much like the artist herself.

'Flawless' by Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj

The playlist continues with this powerful live performance of "Flawless." It is sung by two of the most famous women in music today – Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj – both of whom are known for female empowerment. The song begins with part of a speech by Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Initially delivered at a TEDx conference, “We Should All Be Feminists." Flawless was released in 2013 on Beyoncé’s self-titled fifth album. Queen Bey has sold more than 100 million records, won 22 Grammys and received more MTV Music Awards than any artist in the world. Born in Trinidad, Nicki Minaj is considered by some to the most influential female rapper of all time, selling 20 million singles as a solo artist and an additional 60 million singles as a featured artist.

'Wonder Woman' by Tina Guo

The Wonder Woman theme song closes out the list, performed by world-renowned cellist and composer Tina Guo from China. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, this song will certainly have you packing your bag for the theater. Guo grew up playing with symphonies around the world, and has a resume full of performances – including playing with the Foo Fighters at the Grammys, playing with Cirque du Soleil for the Michael Jackson tour, performing on Ellen DeGeneres's show, playing at the American Music Awards with Carrie Underwood, and on Jimmy Kimmel's show with Ellie Goulding. She has performed with everyone from Stevie Wonder to John Legend to Ariana Grande. She is a fascinating person and performer who makes playing the cello look cool.

After those five songs, we hope you are feeling empowered and ready to save the world! Have any more songs that make you feel like Wonder Woman? Please let us know in the comments below.
