Spielberg's niece steps into the spotlight on reality show
Jessica Katz is a contestant on the Israeli version of 'The Voice.'
Talent runs deep in Steven Spielberg's family. The famed director's niece, Jessica "Jessy" Katz, is a contestant on the new season of the popular Israeli version of "The Voice."
Katz is the 25-year-old daughter of Nancy Spielberg-Katz, Steven Spielberg's sister.
"From the moment that Jessy learned to smile, Jessy sang. She sang before she spoke!" Nancy told From the Grapevine. "Her effervescence, energy, humor and sweet, sweet voice has always kept us smiling. I am a very proud mama."
Katz, a University of Maryland alumna, sang "I Follow Rivers" by Swedish singer-songwriter Lykke Li for her audition on the show. Watch a snippet of her performance below:
She's been performing all around Tel Aviv as part of a band called Jessica Rabbit & the Blues Bunnies since she relocated to Israel in 2011.
"I moved to Israel with the intention of living here and having a career here," Katz told From the Grapevine. "I never really knew where to go with my music and my shows and I felt that it was finally time to take it somewhere besides the bars that I was singing in."
"The Voice" has dozens of international editions around the world, including versions in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Mexico and Australia. The third season of Israel's "The Voice" premiered on June 8 and will continue with auditions and performances throughout the summer.
When asked about her future plans, Katz said she hopes to continue singing, living in Israel and starting a family. "I would like to be married in five years, but I'm not going to settle, so Mr. Right better hurry," she said. "As for kids, I guess that all depends on the career. Before I bring another life into the world I need to make sure mine is in order."
Meanwhile, her mom Nancy, who is president of Playmount Productions, is headed to Israel to screen a movie she produced at the Jerusalem International Film Festival. Nancy is involved with many charitable endeavors, including work for the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.
Asked about her daughter's fate on the hit music competition, Nancy said, "They don't let us know about the outcome of 'The Voice.' Mum's the word."
