The 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' trailer you've been waiting for (sort of)

A fan of the franchise created a must-see two-minute trailer that's heart-stopping.

We've been following with bated breath all the latest developments of the next installment in the "Star Wars" saga. Known for the time being simply as "Episode VIII,' the film is expected to arrive in theaters on Dec. 15, 2017. Which, when you think about it in terms of space travel, is not too far into the future.

This new installment is being helmed by American director Rian Johnson and his longtime friend Ram Bergman, a prolific Israeli producer. Filming on the movie officially wrapped today, and one fan devised the perfect way to celebrate. He made his own trailer for "Episode VIII," which you can see below:

"For people who say that the trailer is fake, well, obviously,” wrote "Star Wars" superfan Alex Luthor in the description to his video. "I didn't make this trailer to fool or scam anyone. It's just a fan trailer. This was made for fun.”

This two-minute clip is an absolute thrill ride and should (at least we hope it should) keep us satiated for the next several months. Industry insiders expect Disney-owned Lucasfilm to release the first official trailer for 'Episode VIII' at the 2017 Super Bowl in February, although they might release it earlier to coincide with the rush of Christmastime movies.

As for Luthor, he's no stranger to the fan-made trailer. On his YouTube channel, viewers can enjoy his other miniature movie masterpieces. They include professionally made fan trailers for everything from "Captain America" to movies that don’t even exist. (What, you haven't seen "The Hulk vs. Superman" yet?)

So just who exactly is this Luthor fellow? To be honest, we're not entirely sure. It could very well be a nom de plume. In Superman lore, Alexander Luthor is the name for both the father and the son of villain Lex Luthor.

So could these trailers possibly be the work of an evil mastermind? Perhaps. Or he could just be one of the world's greatest sci-fi and superhero fans. Either way, the force seems to be strong with him.
