Natalie Portman is about to have one of the busiest years of her life

Actress, already slated to star in four movies this year, preps new sci-fi thriller from director Alex Garland.

There's been an awakening, have you felt it?

That line, instantly recognizable from the latest "Star Wars" film, is extremely apropos for the resurgent film career of Natalie Portman. The Oscar-winning, Israeli-American actress is on the verge of her busiest year in Hollywood since giving birth to her son in 2011. "It was obviously a magical time in my life," she said. "But it also was good because it gave me a hunger to come back and an excitement. Renewed energy for why I want to make things and how I want to make things."

That hunger is now on full display, with Portman's IMDB profile sporting a full six projects in the coming two years with her name attached. Below is a brief breakdown of each detailing what we can expect from one of Hollywood's biggest stars.

Jane Got A Gun | 2016

Hitting theaters later this month, "Jane Got A Gun" features Portman playing a woman on the American frontier who's forced to defend her family from a gang seeking revenge. The production was said to have been intense (with the film incredulously losing its original director on the first day of shooting), and remained in limbo for years even after its completion. Nonetheless, we look forward to seeing Portman, Scottish star Ewan McGregor and the rest of the all-star cast duke it out in this latest American Western.

Song to Song | 2017

Like the title, very little is known about this upcoming film from American director Terrence Malick. Apparently, the film has a musical vibe – taking place against the Austin, Texas, indie music scene and involving love triangles "and a story of sexual obsession and betrayal." But wow, check out this cast: In addition to Portman, we also have an ensemble that includes Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender, Val Kilmer, Rooney Mara and more. A behind-the-scenes video of Kilmer acting in the film can be seen above.

Heyday of the Insensitive Bastards | 2016

Based on American author Robert Boswell’s short story collection, "Heyday of the Insensitive Bastards" was a film project executed by actor James Franco and his students at UCLA. Proving just how great it is to have your professor moonlight as a Hollywood star, the film includes seven vignettes featuring Franco, Kristen Wiig, Matthew Modine, Kate Mara, Jimmy Kimmel and yes, Natalie Portman.

Planetarium | 2016

Set in Paris during the 1930s, "Planetarium" tells the story of spiritualist siblings (played by Portman and Lily Rose Depp) who catch the attention of a French producer while performing their "abilities to connect with ghosts." The film, reportedly a horror drama, is directed by Rebecca Zlotowski and slated for release later this year.

Jackie | 2017

Portman's most high-profile drama since her Academy Award-winning role in "Black Swan" will come in "Jackie," a biopic of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the immediate aftermath of her husband's assassination. The film, currently in production, is directed by Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larrain and produced by Darren Aronofsky, who worked with Portman on "Black Swan."

Annihilation | 2017

British director Alex Garland, who rose to fame last year with the hit artificial intelligence thriller "Ex Machina," has whipped up an all-star cast for his next film, "Annihilation." The movie, loosely adapted from author Jeff Vandemeer's book of the same name, follows a group of women who investigate a mysterious part of the world called Area X "where the rules of nature do not apply." Portman is set to co-star alongside Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez from "Jane the Virgin" and "Creed" star Tessa Thompson.
