See which 'Game of Thrones' star is already shooting her next project
Actress is joining the cast of action thriller from Israeli filmmakers.
British actress Lena Headey has perfected the art of the cold-hearted stare on HBO's popular "Game of Thrones." As Cersei Lannister, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, she's known for her ambitious drive for power and ambition. It's no wonder so many of the characters on the show are scared of her.
And now the 45-year-old Headey has her eyes set on amping up the fear factor on the big screen as well. It's just been announced that she will co-star in a mythological action thriller called "Gunpowder Milkshake." Also cast in a starring role is Karen Gillan of "Jumanji" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" fame. Filming will begin in Berlin this spring.
The movie is being helmed by Israeli filmmakers Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado. The duo was behind the 2013 breakout horror movie "Big Bad Wolves," a movie Quentin Tarantino called the best film of the year. They also made 2011's "Rabies," widely considered to be Israel's first feature-length horror movie. In addition to "Gunpowder Milkshake," Keshales and Papushado are currently developing the thriller "We Are All Monsters Here” about a college-aged woman trying to survive the breakout of a vampire virus.
In response to the Headey casting news, Keshales posted on Twitter, "Winter is coming!" invoking the famous "Game of Thrones" slogan. In an email to us he added: "Navot and I are very excited to be working with Lena Headey and Karen Gillan on 'Gunpowder Milkshake.'"
Scott Jones, a die-hard "Game of Thrones" fan from Philadelphia, was ecstatic about the casting. "Is Cersei the antagonist we hate to love or the protagonist we love to hate? Whatever it is, she’s the straw that stirs the mythological drama of 'Game of Thrones.'" he told From The Grapevine. "I’m excited to see her animate another imaginary world."
In the meantime, Headey can next be seen in the final season of "Game of Thrones," which begins airing on April 14. Here's the first official trailer from HBO:
