'Dancing with the Stars' editions a hit around the world
Celebrate the show's 10th U.S. anniversary by watching these hot moves from all over the planet.
It's hard to believe, but it's been 10 years since "Dancing with the Stars" ("DWTS" to its fans) first hit American TV screens. Based on the hit BBC show "Strictly Come Dancing," the show has given American audiences a chance to watch celebrities of all stripes, from reality stars to former child stars to sports stars and war heroes, strut their stuff on the dance floor.
It's revived a few celebrity careers and given us some famous moments (who could forget Marie Osmond fainting in front of the judges table?). It's also made dancers like Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Derek and Juiianne Hough into stars in their own right. The show's cast for its 20th season, which starts on March 16, was announced last week, with Suzanne Somers, Rumer Willis, Michael Sam and Patti LaBelle being the biggest contestant names.
"DWTS" is a worldwide phenomenon, however, and some of the hottest moves can be found not only on the U.S. version, but in one of the more than 50 versions that air around the world. Get ready to move your feet when you watch these videos:
Alfonso Ribiero and Whitney Carson do 'The Carlton' (DWTS U.S.)
People who were surprised that Ribiero won Season 19 of DWTS based on the dorky dance he made famous on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" probably didn't realize that dancing is something that's been a part of his career since he was a child star in the Broadway production of "The Tap Dance Kid." Here, he shows why it takes a pretty good dancer to come up with something as spastic as "The Carlton".
Pamela Anderson tangos to Depeche Mode (DWTS Israel)
Not sure how she was able to pull it off, but "Baywatch" star Pamela Anderson managed to dance a very sexy tango to the Depeche Mode hit "Enjoy the Silence" not once, but twice: When she was a contestant on the U.S. version of "DWTS" and when she was a guest judge and dancer on the show's Israeli version.
Kim Hyo-yeon combines a foxtrot and paso doble (DWTS South Korea)
Kim Hyo-yeon is a popular model and singer in South Korea, and she knew what she was doing on the dance floor, coming in second place in the second Korean season of "DWTS." Here, she combines two dances you wouldn't think go together, a foxtrot and a paso doble, and she and her partner dance to the Beach Boys hit "Kokomo."
Caroline Flack and Pasha Kovalev get a perfect score with their salsa (Strictly Come Dancing U.K.)
In the 14 seasons of the show that started it all, no one had ever gotten a perfect "40" score from the judges. That was, until last fall's semi-finals, where British television presenter Caroline Flack and her partner, Pasha Kovalev, parlayed this sizzling salsa into the first-ever perfect score. Flack and Kovalev ended up winning the season.
Yuanita Christiani does the Hustle to Beyonce (DWTS Indonesia)
Usually, versions of "DWTS" use re-recorded versions of popular songs. But it seems like Indonesian presenter Yuanita Christiani got hold of a remix of Beyonce's "Crazy In Love" and performed an "American Hustle," as the host calls it, with her partner Wawan.
