5 of Sia's most bizarre and beautiful performances
Australian singer and songwriter is known for her eclectic style and intriguing head pieces.
Are you ready for the summer of Sia? The 40-year-old Australian pop star has announced a string of new cities for her upcoming international tour, with stops in the U.S., Israel, Sweden, Denmark and many more. The news comes as the singer-songwriter's new album, "This is Acting," has soared up the charts and received worldwide acclaim. As she told Ellen DeGeneres recently, the album is composed almost entirely of songs written by Sia for other artists like Adele and Rhianna. When they passed on the tunes, she decided to record them herself.
In honor of her new album and upcoming tour, here are five strange, beautiful and moving performances from one of music's most original artists.
'Elastic Heart' on 'Saturday Night Live'
In January, Sia performed in New York City on "Saturday Night Live," choosing a beautiful, if not somewhat unsettling rendition of her hit "Elastic Heart." Wrote one fan after this performance: "I can listen to her voice cracks every day."
'Bird Set Free' on 'Ellen'
Earlier last month, Sia traveled to Burbank, California, to treat viewers of "Ellen" with a live performance of "Bird Set Free." Similar to "Elastic Heart," a professional dancer donning one of Sia's trademark wigs provided a graceful interpretation of the singer's words. And oh, what a bowtie!
'Breathe Me' at the SxSW Music Festival
In a rare appearance without her trademark headgear, Sia took the 2007 South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas, and delivered this beautiful performance of the hit "Breathe Me." For fans of the HBO series "Six Feet Under," you might want to grab a box of tissues before hitting play.
'Reaper' on 'Good Morning America'
For those who can't get enough of the giant bowtie, you're in luck. Sia once again hit the Big Apple for a performance on "GMA," bringing along two dancers to help her entertain with a rendition of her hit "Reaper." Commented one fan: "The person in black represents depression/fears/anxiety etc., whilst the person in white is a regular person/happiness."
'Iko Iko' on "The Tonight Show"
For her performance on "The Tonight Show," Sia inspired everyone from Jimmy Fallon to American-Israeli actress Natalie Portman (sitting in the front on the left) to embrace her eclectic style. With more than 4 million views already on YouTube, it is without a doubt our most favorite version of "Iko Iko" yet.
